Alicia Diorio is a Child Therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Forest Hills, Queens. She has been practicing in the mental health field for 16 years and has acquired formal training in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical work on the Inpatient Child Psychiatric Unit and in the Partial Hospitalization Program for Children and Adolescents, has provided a wide range of expertise in mental health and psychiatric conditions.

Currently in private practice, she specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents. An Integrative approach combines techniques from various orientations. Types of therapy may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Integrative Psychotherapy, Play Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Orientations are often combined for the benefit of each patient.

Specialty areas include treatment of Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, ADHD, Social Skills Problems, Anger, and Behavioral Problems.

Alicia has been involved in meditation training which has provided a direct understanding of the mind-body connection. This knowledge has helped to better assist patients in developing their capacities for awareness and change. A mindfulness based approach promotes both physiological and psychological well being.

Additionally, Alicia sits on the Board of Child Resilient, a student-led nonprofit organization that aims to foster emotional resilience and mental health wellness in children and adolescents through education, outreach, and awareness.

Licensed Child and Adolescent Therapist:

Julie Schnur is a Licensed Child and Adolescent Therapist with a Bachelors degree in Child Development from Tufts University and a Masters Degree in Social Work from NYU Silver School of Social Work. Today, she specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents and families. 

Julie has extensive experience providing individual, group and family therapy. The psychiatric treatment of children and adolescents in a hospital setting, as well as working with children and families in community centers and in practice practice, has allowed Julie to gain a diverse understanding of mental health conditions among children and teens.

Julie’s areas of expertise include the treatment of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma and LGBTQ+ related issues. 

In addition to clinical practice, Julie has conducted clinical research in child and adolescent development. Research topics include the identity development of adopted children, the effects of maternal smoking during pregnancy on adolescent development, and the efficacy of treatment models for substance abuse in adolescents. 

Julie utilizes a warm, integrative approach incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and play therapy techniques. She values compassion and unconditional positive support as her clients navigate changes and challenges in their lives. 

 

Group Therapy Licensed Child and Adolescent Therapist / Therapeutic Group Leader 

Christina Hoodho is a Nationally Registered and Board Certified Art Therapist, and New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist. She earned her Master’s degree in Creative Arts Therapy from Hofstra University. Christina has worked therapeutically with a diverse clientele of all ages and backgrounds including but not limited to: inpatient psychiatric clients, children with disabilities, children with autism, minors in group homes/foster care and the LGTQ community. For over a decade, she has acquired a wide range of experience with both children and adults. Christina he has served in an array of settings including schools, hospitals, community organizations, recreation programs, cultural institutions and more. 

Christina facilitates individual psychotherapy, art therapy and group therapy.  She is also an executive functioning coach for children and adolescents. In addition, provides supervision and staff trainings to educate professionals on the medicinal qualities of the arts. Having personally experienced healing through eastern medicine, Ayurveda, holistic health and Native American shamanism, Christina often integrates Holistic techniques in her therapeutic practice. She also enjoys employing her creativity as a teaching artist. Her versatile experiences serve as a solid foundation for working with children and families. 

Speciality areas include the treatment of Mood and Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Self Esteem as well as Adjustment Disorders in Children and Adolescents.

 

Licensed Child, Adolescent and Adult Therapist

Abigail Oot is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned her master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University.  Clinical experience focuses on the treatment of diverse populations of children, teens, and adults struggling with anxiety, trauma, depression and relational difficulties. Previous work experience has been conducted primarily in outpatient settings.

Abigail uses a warm, nonjudgmental approach and works to create a safe and collaborative environment for all. Most often working through a psychodynamic lens, additional modalities such motivational interviewing, and play therapy are also utilized.

Psychodynamic therapists attempt to help clients find patterns in their emotions, thoughts, and beliefs in order to gain insight into their current self. These patterns are often found to begin in childhood. Psychodynamic theory holds that early life experiences are extremely influential in psychological development and functioning.

When interacting with children, play, humor, and behavioral methods are frequently incorporated into her individual sessions.

Additionally, Abigail is a candidate at the William Alanson White Institute in their 3-year Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Post Masters program.
